Can you really teach yourself bass guitar? Today we are going to take a quick look at why teaching yourself bass guitar is a really good option but why everyone needs some help when it comes to learning.
Lets get one thing out the way quickly… No one is 100% self taught when it comes to learning to play the bass guitar. Unless you lock yourself away in a dark room the first day you get your bass and reinvent bass playing from scratch all of us learn from somewhere or someone.
If you want to go the teach yourself bass guitar route then the Internet is a great place to start. You can find websites that will give you bits of information to help you get started. You can also watch short video clips online using sites like Youtube.
There is one majot problem with this method though… and that is that you have no structure. You have no idea where to begin, what to learn next or where you are going wrong. I believe that if you want results then lessons are going to get you the skills much, much faster.
Do people learn to play a little bit my teaching themseleves using the Internet? Sure they do, but you can accealrate your progress by not trying to reinvent the wheel by following a proven structure for your bass training.
Private lessons with a teacher in your area are properly the best way to learn. Nothing can beat that one-on-one lesson with an expirenced bass teacher showing you step-by-step how to play. Be careful though because not all bass teachers are good teachers. They might be able to play really well but they just turn up to your lessons each week and show you random stuff. This is not the path to success…
Now of course I’m bias and like I said private lessons are great but paid online bass lessons and courses are the next best thing. They give you a structure to follow and work your way through. (The other great thing about this is you can see yourself moving along through the course and making progress).
So can you teach yourself bass guitar? Sure you can, but with a tiny investment of lessons you can save time, effort and get results quickly.
